In the beautiful mountain village of Stagira in the Municipality of Aristotelis, in a park overlooking the entire bay of Ierissos, is the “Aristotle Grove.” The Grove, where the statue of Aristotle has been placed for many years, has been equipped with interactive instruments. These instruments demonstrate natural phenomena mentioned in the great teacher’s work “Physics.”
The grove, which has been operating since 2003, has become a favorite destination for individual tourists and schools, as it combines entertainment with education wonderfully.
Sundial
The horizontal sundial shows the time at the point where we are. The difference from the official time is 1:25 in the summer and 0:25 in the winter. Through the curved lines, in addition to the time, we can also see the month we are in.
Lens
Each photon (amount of radiated energy) by itself has minimal energy, but when all photons are concentrated at a single point, this energy becomes very large.
Compass
Philosophy has no specific place; it is universal and the property of humanity. Aristotelian philosophy has reached all corners of the world and is the starting point of modern scientific thought.
Pentaphone
Depending on the specific weight and mass, each material produces a different sound frequency upon impact. The 5 granite stones correspond to the scale of the ancient pentaphone.
Optical Disks
When images pass at high speed through the human eye, we do not perceive the images as separate (see Cinema).
Pendulum
The energy from one system that initiates oscillation is transferred due to coupling to the other system, resulting in the oscillation amplitude decreasing in the first and increasing in the second.
Hydrocyclone
The energy provided by the lever’s rotation creates a vortex in the liquid, just as the air’s rotational movement creates a tornado.
Inertia Balls
Momentum transfer during the collision of the balls, where the momentum is successively passed on to each ball until the last one.
Parabolic Mirrors
The sound waves transmitted through the air reflect off the parabolic mirror, and their energy is concentrated at the center. The same phenomenon repeats during the reflection.
Telescopes
With telescopes, one can enjoy a better view of the spectacular bay of Ierissos and the Athos Peninsula from the Grove.
