Artist’s Biography
My name is Christos Palanis. I was born and raised in Edessa, where I have been working as a teacher for the past 28 years. I am married to Roxani Trypsiani, a Kindergarten teacher, and we have two daughters who study at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki: one in the Department of Chemistry and the other in the Department of History and Archaeology.
Alongside my work, I have been involved in painting since a young age, exploring various forms such as oil, watercolor, ink, and pastels. I am primarily a landscape painter. My themes are influenced by the rich and beautiful landscape of Edessa, its well-preserved traditional mansions, and the special occupations of its people. I am self-taught. I have served as a member of the board of the “Apelles” Association of Visual Artists of Edessa for many years, and I am currently the vice president.
I have held solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in neighboring cities, such as Giannitsa, Aridaia, Skydra, Veria, and Thessaloniki. My works are displayed in private and public collections in Thessaloniki, Edessa, Istanbul, and Ierissos.
One of my paintings, depicting the liberation of the city, is displayed in the Municipality of Edessa, with the unveiling ceremony conducted by His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece.
Specifically, on April 18, 2015, the inauguration of my solo exhibition titled “Views of Athos” will take place in the old Girls’ School hall in Edessa. The exhibition will then continue in May in Thessaloniki at the Kalamaria Municipality Art Hall “Remezzo” and will later be showcased in Ierissos at the “Aristotelian Spiritual Center.”
All the works presented in this exhibition are inspired by the stunning landscape of Mount Athos, its unique and masterful monastic architecture, the lives of its venerable monks, their service, and their overflowing love.
