Ammouliani Island

No recommendations are necessary for the only inhabited island of central Macedonia, which has become one of the top tourist destinations in Northern Greece. The 2 nautical miles that separate the central settlement of Ammouliani from the port of Tripiti (outside of Ouranoupoli) are covered in less than 15 minutes, and the ferry service is daily and frequent.

With an area not exceeding 4.5 square kilometers, low hills, few olive trees, but many beautiful beaches with crystal-clear, turquoise waters, the island of Ammouliani feels like paradise! According to local records, until 1925, it was a dependency of the Vatopedi Monastery on Mount Athos. Here, 2-3 monks lived, managing the property and assisted by about 20 workers from the surrounding area. They were engaged in field cultivation, animal grazing, and olive picking. In early 1925, the island was granted to refugees from Asia Minor, specifically from islands in the Propontis (Gallimi, Pasalimani, Skoupia). Coming from areas near Constantinople, they brought their culture, customs, and traditions with them. With their knowledge of the sea, they focused mainly on fishing and, within a few years, excelled in this field.
