The “Help at Home” program was created to meet the basic needs for social care to ensure a dignified and independent life for the elderly since 2003.
On 18/1/2002, a proposal was submitted for the creation of a “Help at Home” unit. On 14/6/2002, the project was integrated into the Central Macedonia Regional Operational Program. The unit’s vehicle was also provided. On 17/3/2003, the operation of the “Help at Home” program began.
IT IS ADDRESSED TO:
- Residents of the Municipality of Stagira – Akanthos
- Elderly men and women
- People in need of supportive services, medical and nursing care, or home help (people with disabilities)
- Those unable to care for themselves
- Those who lack family care
MEDICAL CARE
- Medical diagnostic tests
- Electrocardiogram at the Clinic
- Blood tests for bedridden individuals
- Blood pressure, sugar, and cholesterol measurements
- Prescription writing
- Bed sore and wound care
- Injection therapy
- Health promotion
SOCIAL SUPPORT
- Assistance with the issuance of allowances, pensions, and health books
- Counseling support for families
PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT
- Counseling (parents’ – individual) and psychological support for citizens with psychological, psychiatric, or other health problems (e.g., chronic diseases)
- Cognitive assessment, rehabilitation, referral of elderly patients (patients with Alzheimer’s disease)
- Health promotion program in schools of the Municipality
- Support for dependent individuals in recovery (high percentage of heroin users in the area)
HOME CARE
- Cleaning of the residence
- Cooking – Ironing
- Shopping for food and medicines
- Payment of bills
